 Suspended in a bosun's chair beneath the bowsprit of the Gwydyr Castle, Fischer in this self portrayal from his youth adds a mischievous touch to tthe figurehead while his ship languishes in the mid-Atlantic doldrums in 1901. The Artist later recalled that he had "beautified the regal lady with carmine lips and cheeks" - an embellishment that made her naughtily suggestive of a streetwalker. |
